As the Flowers Bloom, So Does the Fun
There’s nothing like springtime in Afton. As the snow melts, sweet-smelling wildflowers start to blossom and majestic wildlife emerge. The outdoors is calling you to adventure; how will you answer?
Fantastic Fishing
With warmer weather, the fish in Star Valley start biting. Fly fishers will appreciate the pristine stillness of Cottonwood Lake. Newer anglers will love casting their lines into the trout-filled waters of Swift Creek. For a more dynamic adventure, try fishing from a drift boat on the Salt River. Whatever your ideal fishing experience looks like, Star Valley has something for you.
Sensational Shed Hunting
When springtime rolls around, deer and elk shed their antlers, no longer needing them after mating season. These antlers can be found and collected throughout the region. Shed hunting has been a long-held Afton tradition. From 1955 to 1958, local boy scout groups collected over 3,000 elk horns in the area to construct Afton’s famous Elk Horn Arch — the largest of its kind in the world.
Optimal Off-roading
When you’re looking for a true adventure, don’t limit yourself to paved roads. Race past towering pine trees and fly over the varied landscape. Take an ATV or dirt bike through the Bridger-Teton National Forest’s network of designated trails for a truly exhilarating experience. Just be prepared to come back dirty!
High-quality Horseback Riding
Live out your American West dreams from horseback. Ride through the scenery with the wind through your hair on the back of one of the world’s most majestic animals. Spend an afternoon basking in the beauty of the valley or embrace your inner cowboy on a multi-day trek adventure.
